Commonwealth Policy Center

The Center for Disease Control recently revised their guidance on the isolation period for those who have Covid from 10 to 5 days. The CDC director said this change was to “keep the critical functions of society open and operating.” After two years of inconsistent guidance, we have to ask, was this decision based on good science or on societal demands? Hospitals and clinics lost nurses, businesses have closed, supply chains disrupted, and the economy crippled as our nation sunk into massive debt. Now the CDC is feeling the weight of its own guidance while claiming that the science supports their new recommendation. The updated guidance is good, but economic and societal side effects should have been considered much earlier.
