Should professionals be allowed to counsel minors who are struggling with same-sex attraction and gender dysphoria to embrace their born gender and heterosexuality? If a committee of Louisville Metro Council has its way, the answer is no. Councilman Bill Hollander proposed an ordinance last week that would ban counselors and therapists from leading a minor to change their sexual orientation or gender identity. Hollander contends that conversion “leads to higher suicide rates for children.” Critics contend that this ordinance would violate the free speech and freedom of religion for pastoral counselors. The speech rights of those who believe in God’s design for human sexuality is in jeopardy. And the full Louisville Metro Council will have their say as they vote on the conversion therapy ban today.
