Kentucky Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman announced over $2 million in new public funding aimed at addressing domestic violence. The money will fund training and programs for law enforcement and other service providers. Domestic violence is a tragedy, and the government should use its resources to help fight against this great evil. But more funding and more programs cannot get to the heart of the matter. Domestic violence is caused by sin. Violent anger, selfishness, and lack of impulse control, are ingredients. If domestic violence is to be curtailed, it will require changed hearts and minds. And this is the realm of the church. When the reality of sin is taught and the remedy of our sinful natures through the Savior Jesus Christ is embraced, many social ills like domestic violence will be curtailed.
