A monument of the 10 Commandments is coming back to the Kentucky Capitol grounds. The goal is to remind us of the roots and origin of our laws. Critics say that it imposes a religion. But this isn’t true. While teaching the spiritual importance of the 10 Commandments should take place within the realm of the church, application by citizens in their daily lives, benefits the state. John Adams, our nation’s second president reminded the Massachusetts militia that “our constitution was made for a moral and religious people. It is holy inadequate to the government of any others.” Restoring the 10 Commandments to the State Capitol is a good reminder of the historical significance of religion and morality in the history of the Commonwealth and the nation at large.
