Transgender Candidate Elected November 16, 2017 by Staff

The first openly transgender candidate got elected in Virginia last week. Danica Roem is a man who now identifies as a woman and that's how he campaigned. Nearly 55 percent of the voters had no problem voting for Roem so they sent him to serve in the Virginia state House. So what does all this mean? At the least, it's an acceptance of a radical self-autonomy where individuals define their own gender. But it could also be an indication to the end of the idea of manhood and womanhood altogether.  A self-perception, no matter how far off it is, now trumps biological reality. And this is serious. If voters can be convinced that a man can become a woman and a woman can become a man, then what can voters not be convinced of?
