Tax Day April 17, 2018 by Staff

Today is tax day.  For many, it’s a painful reminder of just how much the government takes from our wallet. We pay sales tax, property tax, excise taxes on certain products and of course state and federal income taxes. According to the American Tax Foundation, 31 percent of the nation’s income is collected in taxes: $3.3 trillion in federal taxes and $1.6 trillion in state and local taxes. That's $5.1 trillion! Of course, it's necessary to pay taxes for government to fulfill basic obligations. But just how much is enough? That's a question that's answered by policy makers and ultimately by us at the ballot box. In the meantime, we're required to pay taxes even though it might be painful. But look at the bright side—it means that you had income last year!
