President's Day February 20, 2017 by Staff

Today is President's Day and if you're a public employee, you can thank George Washington, the father of our country for what we celebrate. He was "first in war, first in peace and first in the hearts of his countrymen." Henry Lee, Washington's friend eulogized Washington and said 'that he was second to none in humble and enduring scenes of private life. Pious, just, humane, temperate, and sincere; uniform, dignified, and commanding; his example was edifying to all around him as were the effects of that example everlasting." What a compliment. Washington set a high standard of leadership. His courage and fortitude allowed him to persevere when crossing the Delaware and facing long odds against the British. And his strength of character resisted efforts to make him a king. This is leadership worth celebrating and we need more of it today.
