Naloxone Available at Kroger August 20, 2016 by Staff

Next time you go to your local Kroger pharmacy, you'll find a drug available that wasn't there last week. It's called Naloxone and used to reverse heroin overdoses. What makes this interesting is that its now available without a prescription.  Last year over 1200 Kentuckians overdosed—about 1/3rd were from heroin last. That's nearly three people per day. Whatever can be done to save a life is laudable, but why aren't we asking what's led to the drug epidemic in the first place? Why are so many of our young people turning to drugs? What pain are they masking? Why take such risk to seek a pleasure that often leads to addiction and death? Until we discover the root of the drug problem, pharmacies like Kroger, not matter how well-intentioned will just be treating the branches.
