Medicaid Used for Sex-changes? November 26, 2016 by Staff

A Minnesota judge recently struck down a state law that prohibited the use of taxpayer dollars to fund gender reassignment surgery. The judge said citizens have a fundamental right to change their sexual anatomy through surgery and declared the statute unconstitutional. If the ruling is upheld, this means that Medicare can be used for sex-change operations. But we should ask, is this good policy? Is it good for human health? Contrary to the  judge's opinion, true freedom cannot be found in subjecting the created order to pure desire or unfettered will. Human flourishing demands that we understand who we are, including our gender, in light of a wise and beautiful grand design. There is no constitutional right to reinvent our gender because there is no human right to deny our own humanity.
