Lobbyists Spend Record Amount in Frankfort May 9, 2018 by Staff

Lobbyists spent a record $8.4 million trying to influence Kentucky lawmakers this last legislative session. So should we be upset? Is lobbying corrupt? While there's a negative perception about lobbyists, there's nothing inherently corrupt. Lobbyists are simply working for the interests of their employers. Farmers, Coal miners, doctors and lawyers have their own lobbying firms. And they often try to keep government from overstepping its bounds. But we need to remember that the biggest voice and most important lobbyist is YOU. As a citizen you can visit your legislator and sit in on committee meetings. You can make a phone call or write a letter.  And ultimately, you have incredible input in whether your elected official should keep his job. It's called a vote. And you'll have your say in the May 22 primary.
