Believe in Something September 11, 2018 by Staff

Nike's major deal with former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick is creating a backlash. In 2016, the star quarterback decided to kneel during the national anthem as a protest to racial injustice. Nike's new ad campaign begins with a still shot of Kaepernick's face and underneath are the words: "Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything." In response to the ad, some Nike apparel owners cut the Nike swoosh off their socks and burnt their shoes in protest.  Nike stock dropped three percent. If anything can be agreed upon in this controversy, it's that belief is worth sacrificing for.  But does this apply across the religious and political spectrum to people like Jack Phillips and Barronelle Stutzman? Because their convictions about marriage nearly cost them everything.
