Ali Laid to Rest June 10, 2016 by Staff

One of Kentucky’s most iconic figures was laid to rest today. Muhammad Ali, a Louisville native, was widely considered one of the greatest athletes of the 20th century and arguably the most gifted heavyweight champion of all time. But he wasn’t just known for his boxing feats. He was an outspoken voice on issues of politics and race. He famously refused to go to war in Vietnam and became a conscientious objector. Whether or not you agree with Ali’s politics, his appeal to conscience is worth contemplating, especially at a time in which the religious beliefs of many are being steamrolled by a moral revolution that has little toleration for dissent. Many praised Ali's stalwart convictions in their eulogies. The question in the midst of today's moral revolution is whether those on the political left will likewise honor this generation’s conscientious objectors?
